fxNP Kinect 1.1After Effects
Any shot, the way a Kinect sees it.
One click turns footage into a head-on depth-sensor point cloud in the classic Kinect colours. The depth comes from AI that runs on your Mac; the artefacts come from how the real sensor works.

Preview render coming soon.
What it does
OUT 00:00:00:00No depth camera, no 3D layer, no camera rig. Put it on a clip and the picture becomes points.
NP Kinect sees the shot from where the camera stood: head-on, every pixel pushed back to its own depth. Mix blends back to the original picture, so the same effect works as a look or as a transition.
Turn Orbit Y and Orbit X and the cloud swings round in real perspective. Point Depth pushes the relief deeper or flattens it. Auto Orbit swings or turns it on its own, with no keyframes.
It looks like a sensor, not a filter: depth steps, the projector shadow beside near objects, ray streaks behind edges, IR speckle and noise. Choose Kinect v1 (Structured Light), Time of Flight (Kinect v2 / Azure) or Clean when you only want the shape.
How it works
OUT 00:00:00:00Depth on your Mac
Video Depth Anything Small estimates depth for every frame, steady over time. Footage never leaves your computer.
Sensor grid
The depth is resampled onto a sensor grid (Density) and stepped the way raw disparity is, so surfaces break into the terraces a real Kinect shows.
Point cloud
Every sample becomes a point in 3D, seen through a virtual camera you can orbit and dolly. Additive Light lets dense surfaces burn hot.
Sensor artefacts
Projector shadow, ray streaks, noise and IR speckle follow the chosen sensor model, as strong as Authenticity says.
Key controls
OUT 00:00:00:00The real parameter names, as they appear in Effect Controls.
- Orbit Y · Orbit X
- Swing the cloud round. Zero is the original camera.
- Point Depth
- How deep the relief goes, from flat to exaggerated.
- Mix
- Back to the picture. Key it for transitions.
- Density · Point Size
- Sensor grid resolution and the size of each point.
- Point Shape
- Round, Square or Sphere (shaded blobs).
- Point Color
- Depth Hue (Kinect), Rainbow, IR Mono, Source Color or Single Color.
- Hot Core
- Burns the densest points to white.
- Glow · Wide Glow
- A tight core and a wide halo around the points.
- Stray Particles
- Loose points floating in front of and behind the subject.
- Wire Links
- Connects neighbouring points into a wire mesh.
- Sensor · Authenticity
- v1, time of flight or clean, and how much of the sensor you see.
- Ray Streaks · IR Speckle
- Curtains behind edges and the projector dot pattern.
- Scatter
- Blows the cloud apart: Outward, Upward, Wind or Explode from Depth.
- Scan
- A scan line top to bottom, left to right, near to far or far to near; Scan Reveal builds the shot.
- Auto Orbit
- Swing or Turntable, with Swing Angle and Orbit Period (s).
- Background Cut
- Drops the far background so only the subject remains.
The effect always renders the whole layer, because depth needs the whole picture. 8, 16 and 32 bpc.
One-click looks
OUT 00:00:00:00Every look is a starting point in the effect’s own Look menu. Change anything after.

Where it fits
OUT 00:00:00:00Events and LED walls
Stage visuals from the event’s own footage, in a look nobody can mistake for stock.
Music videos
Performance footage as a point cloud, orbiting or scattering on the beat.
Titles and openers
Scan reveals and scatter builds that turn a plain shot into a scene.
Social
A two-second In / Out transition between cuts.
